Temukuyama Hachiman Jinja is a venerable Hachiman shrine adjacent to Todai-ji in Nara. During the Nara period, when the Great Buddha of Todai-ji was being constructed, this shrine was established by enshrining a deity brought from Usa Hachiman Shrine as the protective guardian of the Great Buddha. It is also famous as a viewing spot for autumn leaves, and even Sugawara no Michizane composed the famous poem, 'This offering day, I have no time to make proper tribute, but receive, I pray, these autumn maple leaves transformed into brocade, all as the gods will.' It is also loved as a shrine of the deity of learning, and many worshippers visit. We hope you will certainly visit this shrine when paying respects at Todai-ji.
