Nitta Jinja is an ancient shrine that has long been revered as the First Shrine of Satsuma. Located in the central part of the Satsuma Peninsula, this place has been worshipped as a sacred mountain since ancient times. During the Sengoku period, it received the devoted faith of the Shimazu clan, and throughout the Edo period served as the chief tutelary shrine of the Satsuma domain. The precincts are verdant and filled with an atmosphere that welcomes visitors warmly. As a shrine beloved by the local people, it has a long history of receiving the prayers of many through the present day.
