Hanzōbō is one of the sacred sites in Kanagawa Prefecture and a place of practice in the Shugendo tradition, having gathered faith from ancient times as a sacred location. It transmits to the present day a unique religious culture combining mountain worship with esoteric Buddhism. The grounds reached by climbing a steep mountain path constitute a mystical space where tengu and mountain deities dwell. Known as a place where ascetics undertake rigorous training, it is also visited by lay worshippers seeking purification of body and spirit. It is a special place filled with spiritual presence, enveloped by the power of nature and profound silence.
