Throughout the ages, this temple served as a defensive fortification forming the masu-gata (box-shaped fortification) protecting the Yanagiwara General Gate of Hyogo-tsu. The principal image is Shakyamuni Buddha. The temple is also venerated as the Yanagiwara Daikokuten, and every January from the 9th to 11th, the Toka Ebisu Grand Festival draws large crowds of worshippers.
