History

Byakko

Shoho-ji rises at Takagosho in Kakegawa, where a thousand-year covenant to preserve the Buddha's true law permeates the very air of the temple. The ascetic practice I watch over has remained unchanged since ancient times. Those who seek learning and those who pursue enlightenment all visit this temple to touch the depths of Buddhist teaching. Often a single goshuin becomes one's gateway to the Buddhist path in life. From high Takagosho, the world's delusions seem distant, and the heart grows pure. The prayers of Kakegawa's people and the temple bell's ringing both express my wish to pass true law forward to future generations.
