History

Byakko

Myorenji is an ancient temple of the Nichiren sect located in Kominato, Kamogawa City, Chiba Prefecture. Its mountain name is Myonichisan. The temple is renowned as the burial site of Nichiren Daishonin's parents — his father Nunami Shigetada (posthumous Buddhist name: Myonichi) and his mother Umegiku (posthumous Buddhist name: Myoren). Both the mountain name and temple name derive from these Buddhist names bestowed upon his parents by Nichiren himself. Its former head temple was Kominato Tanjoji, and the Ryoshinkan hall is preserved here as a designated Nichiren sect historical site.
