History
Nanko Jinja is a shrine of scenic beauty enshrined by the shore of the beautiful Nanko Park. It enshrines Matsudaira Sadanobu, the feudal lord of the Shirakawa domain, and was founded by people who admired his virtue. Lord Sadanobu was a wise ruler known for the "Kansei Reforms," who loved his people and valued scholarship. Nanko is known as Japan's oldest public park and offers the beauty of each season. As I gaze upon the cherry blossoms and autumn leaves by the lakeside, I continue to hear the wishes of all visitors.
