History
Shomyō-ji Temple is said to have been founded by Minamoto no Yoritomo. It was a temple that gathered the faith of samurai and commoners during the Kamakura period and prospered. It is particularly known for its blessings of academic success and prayers for passing exams, attracting many students. Within the vast grounds, there is a beautiful pond garden, which is designated as a national scenic spot. This garden is a precious heritage that conveys the aristocratic culture of that time to the present day. It is a place where one can worship while feeling history and nature in a serene atmosphere. It is a place where many people's prayers still live on.
