Nansu Jinja is enshrined in Kamiryuo-cho, Kagoshima, and enshrines Saigō Takamori (Nanshū-ō), a hero of the Meiji Restoration. This shrine, built in remembrance of Saigō, who fell in the Seinan War, truly symbolizes the pride of Satsuma. Born from the collective feelings of people who admired Saigō's great character and achievements, this shrine has welcomed many pilgrims since the Meiji period. Following Saigō's spirit of "Respect Heaven and Love Humanity," people continue to visit today seeking a sense of justice and a compassionate heart. From the temple grounds overlooking Sakurajima, one can gaze upon the beautiful landscape of his beloved homeland.
