Kasuga Hachiman-gu is an ancient shrine with a long history as the Grand Shrine of Shimosa Province. From the Heian period, it gathered the faith of warriors and enshrines Hachiman, the kami with ties to the Genji. In the grounds stands a great ginkgo tree said to be over a thousand years old, revered as a sacred tree that truly awakens one to divine presence. Rooted in Ichikawa, it is a warm shrine that has walked together with the local people.
