Gansho-an stands in Karanida in Obuse, an ancient temple surrounded by beautiful nature in Shinshu. It is renowned as the place where ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai spent his final years and painted the ceiling artwork "Eight-Directional Phoenix." It is also famous for housing the mausoleum of the warring states general Fukushima Masanori, and has welcomed numerous worshippers while honoring the general's memorial. The quiet grounds beloved by Hokusai nurture artistic sensibility and offer peace of mind. This special space where history and art intertwine invites visitors to offer prayers with a calm heart.
