History
Butsugenja is a head temple (reiseki-ji-in) of the Nichiren sect located in Ito, Shizuoka, on a hill overlooking the Izu sea. Known by its mountain name Kaikouzan, this sacred site is associated with Saint Nichiren and has long been revered as an important holy place of the Nichiren sect.
