This Shinsaku Hachimangu is said to have been founded in the Kamakura period by inviting Hachiman, the ancestral deity of the Minamoto clan. Since then, it has attracted the deep faith of samurai and has been revered as the guardian deity of the region. The shrine buildings have a history of overcoming several fires and wars, and being rebuilt each time. It is said to house treasures such as a sword dedicated by Minamoto no Yoritomo. Ancient trees hundreds of years old stand tall within the precincts, enveloped in a tranquil atmosphere. It is said to bring blessings for luck in competition and academic achievement, and many people visit to make prayers. It can be said to be a historic shrine where the souls of ancient samurai reside.
