Hirose Taisha is a renowned shrine revered as a water deity since ancient times. This venerable ancient shrine is recorded in the Engi Shiki Jinmei-cho and has been deeply venerated by the imperial court as a deity governing flood control and irrigation of the Yamato River. It is famous for the Suna-kake festival in spring, where a spirited festival is held in which participants throw sand on the sacred grounds to pray for abundant harvests. Belief in gratitude for water's blessings and prayers for abundant harvests from ancient times continue to exist. This is truly a shrine worthy of being called the head shrine of Yamato's water deity, with miraculous spiritual efficacy.
