History

Byakko

I shall speak of my eight-century history beginning in the year 1200. When Kajiwara Kagenori received land from the Oyama clan and built his castle at Kogusuri, he reverently relocated the Izumi Province Shinoda-mori Inari Myojin to a mound where bamboo grass was planted at Taya, establishing me as Shinozuka Inari Daimyojin. I enshrine three deities: Ukano-mitama-no-kami, Ukemochi-no-kami, and Wakumusubi-no-kami. As an Inari deity, I bestow blessings of abundant harvests and prosperous business upon the faithful who have venerated me for centuries. In 1758, the main hall was rebuilt by local master carpenter Kojima Gentaro Tsunenari, and in 1874, the worship hall was reconstructed, creating the magnificent shrine complex that stands today. Each year during the Hatsuma Festival, I witness the grand procession of decorated horses, horseback archery, and sacred kagura performances that bring great vitality to both my precincts and the entire community. Remarkably, my sacred grounds are also designated as a cultural property of Oyama City as an ancient burial mound, testament to the sanctity this place has held since ancient times.
