History

Byakko

Gamoyo Hachiman Jinja is a venerable shrine with Emperor Ojin as its principal deity. Since ancient times, this place has flourished as a center of Hachiman faith and has been revered as the guardian deity of the region. Within the grounds stands a massive camphor tree said to be over 1,000 years old, and its divine appearance moves the hearts of visitors. This camphor tree is known as Japan's largest giant tree and is carefully protected as a sacred tree. Enriched over long ages, the natural power nurtured here and the divine virtues of Hachiman-sama have become one, making this truly a spiritually efficacious sacred place.
