History
Sendai Dai Jingu is a shrine that enshrines the divided spirit of Ise Grand Shrine and is affectionately known as the Ise of Tohoku. Established during the Meiji period, it enshrines Amaterasu Omikami and Toyouke Omikami. While situated in the heart of Sendai, the grounds are enveloped in stillness, truly an oasis in the city. Because one can receive the same divine benefits as Ise Grand Shrine, it is a highly regarded shrine visited by many worshippers. Particularly, many people visit when facing important milestones or significant wishes.
