History
Byodoji is renowned as the 22nd sacred site of the Shikoku Eighty-Eight Temple Pilgrimage, located in Akiyama, Niino-cho, Anan City. As a sacred place associated with Kobo Daishi Kukai, it has a long history of over 1,200 years. True to its name "Equality," it enshrines Yakushi Nyorai as its principal deity, who brings equal salvation to all people, and is particularly revered for its miraculous efficacy in healing illness. This temple continues to be cherished by many people today—not only by Shikoku pilgrims but also as a source of spiritual support for local people.
