History

Byakko

Manganji is a temple of the Koyasan Shingon sect located in Kawanishi City, Hyogo Prefecture, with the mountain name Shinshizan. The principal image is the Meaki Amida Nyorai (Open-Eyed Amitabha). The Kannon-do hall, enshrining a Thousand-Armed Kannon, serves as the 13th sacred site of the New Saigoku Thirty-Three Pilgrimage. The temple is deeply associated with Minamoto no Mitsunaka, the ancestor of the Seiwa Genji clan, who established his base here and held the temple in great reverence, making it a prayer hall for the Minamoto clan. The temple grounds lie in a detached area of Kawanishi City, surrounded by Takarazuka.
