History
Katori Shrine, guardian shrine of Abiko-juku, was founded during the Kyoho era (1716-1736). It was destroyed in the great fire of 1827 (Bunsei 10) and rebuilt during the Tenpo era. In the early Meiji period it was listed as a village shrine, and in 1907 thirteen surrounding shrines were merged into it. The current shrine building was newly constructed in reinforced concrete in 1981.
