History
Hosunji stands on the western coast of Izu, dedicated to the Nichiren Buddhist faith and the life-giving teachings symbolized by the 'Dharma cloud.' For centuries, fishermen and sailors have sought this temple's blessings for safety at sea and abundant catches. The steady hum of ocean winds cannot shake the profound quietude of the temple grounds. The prayers of those venturing onto the water and those remaining on shore meet as one in this sacred space. Positioned at the westernmost point of Izu, overlooking the sunset, the temple embodies the eternal cycle of departure and return, life and transformation.
