History

Sumiyoshi Jinja, located in Minami Ward, Yokohama, has long been revered as a deity of maritime safety. Among the many Sumiyoshi shrines across the country, this one in Yokohama can be said to have walked alongside the development of the port city of Yokohama. The main deities are the Sumiyoshi Sanjin, who are believed to grant not only maritime safety but also business prosperity and matchmaking. Despite being in the city, the shrine grounds have a quiet and calm atmosphere. The goshuin conveys the dignity of a guardian deity of the sea.
