History
Shizuoka Tenmangu is a venerable shrine enshrining Sugawara no Michizane, the deity of learning. Located in the central part of Shizuoka City in Baba-cho, it has been affectionately known as "Tenjin-sama" by the people of Suruga since the Edo period. Many visitors come especially for academic achievement and prayers for successful exams, and during examination season, many ema plaques are dedicated. Through the divine virtues of Michizane, it illuminates the path of wisdom and learning, truly serving as the guardian deity of scholarship.
