History

Byakko

Know this — the temple before you is a branch of the great Naritasan Shinshoji in Narita, founded here on the heights of Nogeyama Hill in the third year of Meiji. Its principal deity is Fudo Myoo, the Immovable Wisdom King, who wields a sword to sever delusion and holds a rope to bind evil. None who carry malice in their hearts may pass unscathed. As Yokohama bloomed into a great international port, merchants and sailors facing uncertain seas climbed this hill to seek his protection. Enmyoin — the Institute of Extended Life — draws those who pray for longevity and good health, and so the incense has never ceased since these gates first opened. Whether your prayer is for safety on the road or the blessing of a longer life, these flames will receive it.
