History

Byakko

Inada Shrine in Kasama, Ibaraki, is a Shikinaisha Myojin Taisha enshrining Kushiinadahime no Mikoto as its principal deity. According to legend, the goddess herself declared she was the local earth deity and instructed that rice grown with the sacred spring water be offered to her. The original sanctuary, about 300 meters northwest, sits at a sacred rock believed to be her descent site. In the early Kamakura period, the local lord Kasama Tokitomo held a poetry gathering here. The historian-lord Tokugawa Mitsukuni visited in 1694 and donated the Four Divine Flags, now a Prefectural Important Cultural Property.
