History
Kannon-ji is an ancient temple located in a picturesque area near the sea in Kannonzaki-cho, Shimonoseki. With Kannon Bosatsu as its principal object of worship, it has long been revered as a guardian deity of maritime safety and fishing. This temple, standing as if watching over the Kanmon Strait, was a place where many sailors and fishermen prayed for their safe passage. Through the blessings of the compassionate Kannon, it has become a spiritual refuge for those seeking the blessings of the sea and its safety, a sacred site by the shore.
