Kijin Shrine, nestled in Ranzan Town, Saitama Prefecture, is one of only a handful of shrines in Japan that enshrine oni (demons) themselves as deities, rather than seeking to repel them. This reversal of convention is the shrine's most distinctive trait. During Setsubun, the unique cry of "Fuku wa uchi, oni wa uchi" ("Good fortune in, demons in") echoes through the grounds, drawing visitors from across the country. The shrine teaches that by welcoming the formidable power of oni as a protective deity, one can dispel misfortune and invite good luck.
