Joei-ji is a renowned Soto Zen temple founded during the Oei era (1394-1428) of the Muromachi period. Located in the natural surroundings of Miyanonoshita in Yamaguchi City, it is known for its beautiful garden called the "Sesshu Garden." In the late Muromachi period, the painter-monk Sesshu is said to have practiced at this location and created the garden, which has been designated as a National Historic Site and Place of Scenic Beauty. The temple grounds, where Zen spirituality and beauty harmonize, continue to bring inspiration and peace to many visitors.
