Shouo-ji (Shouo-ji)

Shoo-ji (also written Shoo-ji) is a Obaku Zen Buddhist temple located in Honda, Kokubunji, Tokyo. Said to have been founded in the late Muromachi period, it was established as the clan temple of the Honda family, who cleared the surrounding land. The founding priest is recorded as Tennyosoza, the 61st abbot of Myoshinji. Within the precinct remain the Honda family mausoleum and a stone grave marker from the late Muromachi period, designated a cultural heritage site by Kokubunji City. The principal image is Shakyamuni Buddha.
