History
Kiyosumi-dera is the head temple of the Nichiren sect, where Saint Nichiren underwent ascetic training in his youth. It is said to bestow blessings of academic success, good luck, and warding off evil, drawing many worshippers from across the country. Particularly, many visit to learn the teachings of Saint Nichiren and to pray for academic achievement. The temple grounds house a National Treasure, the seated statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, and various cultural assets associated with Saint Nichiren, offering a sense of history and tradition.
