History

Byakko

Nestled in the embrace of Mount Kurio in Azumino, Manganji is an ancient temple of the Buzan school of Shingon Buddhism. It is the 26th sacred site on the Shinano 33 Kannon Pilgrimage circuit, earning it the title "Shinano Koya." The principal image is Senju Kannon (Thousand-Armed Avalokitesvara), and since ancient times the temple has drawn countless worshippers carrying their deepest wishes. Surrounded by the peaks of the Northern Alps, prayers offered here are said to reach the compassionate hands of Kannon with quiet certainty.
