History
Honkoji is the head temple of the Honkoji school of Hokke Buddhism for the Tokai region, situated in Wazu, Kosai City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Its principal image is the Three Treasures, and its temple mountain name Joreizan derives from the phrase "Jozai Ryojusen" in the Lotus Sutra. Four sub-temples guard the precincts, preserving the teachings of the Lotus and its spiritual merits to the present day. Over its long history it has received the prayers of countless devotees and served as a pillar of Hokke Buddhism in the Tokai region.
