History

Shisho Jinja is enshrined in Kinosaki Onsen, Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture, located next to the Goshono-yu bathhouse, one of the town's famous outdoor hot spring baths. This ancient shrine has long been revered as the guardian deity of Kinosaki Onsen. According to tradition, the monk Dochi of the Nara period prayed at this site for the hot springs to flow forth. The principal deity, Yushima Daimyojin, is enshrined here alongside Okuninushi, Sukunahikona, and Kotoshironushi. Every October, the grand festival sees portable shrines carried through the hot spring district, uniting the community. Travelers visiting Kinosaki to take the waters continue to pray here for safe journeys and good health.
