History
Ayugai Yasaka Jinja is a shrine located in the Ayugai district of Kitsunezanji, Ichinoseki. As a Yasaka Jinja-affiliated shrine, it enshrines Susanoo no Mikoto. The place name "Ayugai" is said to derive from the abundance of sweetfish caught in the river flowing through this area, indicating the land's deep historical connection with water. As the local tutelary deity, this shrine has long watched over the lives of the local people, and particularly draws many worshippers during summer festival season. The grounds, surrounded by natural beauty, provide a serene space that purifies the heart.
