History

Byakko

Tono-go Hachiman-gu is enshrined in Tono, known as the village of folk tales. Tono became nationally famous through 'Tono Monogatari' as a land filled with mystery and legend. This Hachiman-gu has long served as the guardian deity of the region, walking alongside the people of Tono throughout history. The martial character of Hachiman-kami merged with Tono's abundant nature and folk beliefs, creating a unique sacred atmosphere. True to its status as a village of folk tales, this is a special shrine where pilgrims can have their hearts cleansed and experience the spirit of old Japan.
