Ryozen-ji, situated in Naruto City, is the first station of the Shikoku Eighty-Eight Temple Pilgrimage, known as the "Temple of Vows" where all pilgrims begin their journey. Legend holds that it was founded by imperial decree of Emperor Shomu, and it became the starting point when Kobo Daishi Kukai opened the Shikoku pilgrimage route. The grounds contain many points of interest including a two-tiered pagoda and main hall, with shops selling pilgrimage supplies. It is a pilgrimage site filled with hope, attracting visitors from throughout the nation seeking to fulfill new beginnings.
