Hie Shrine, located in Kosemba-cho, Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture, is also known as Semba Hie Shrine or Kawagoe Hie Shrine. Once ranked as a prefectural shrine (kensha), it was originally situated within the precincts of Kitain Temple, one of the most historically significant Tendai temples in the Kanto region. In the Taisho era, it was relocated to its current site in front of the Kitain temple gate to accommodate road construction. As a guardian shrine closely tied to Kitain, it has long been venerated by the people of the Musashino region for blessings of household safety, business prosperity, and protection from misfortune. Today it continues to welcome worshippers as a quietly powerful shrine that has walked alongside the history of the Kawagoe castle town.
