Otomi Kuniitama Jinja has been revered since ancient times as the first shrine of Totomi Province. 'Otomi' refers to Lake Hamana, and the shrine is worshipped as the guardian deity of the spirit of the land that presides over the water blessings of this region. With an ancient history as the first shrine, it received deep reverence from provincial governors and military warlords alike. Particularly as the tutelary shrine of Totomi Province protecting the abundant nature surrounding Lake Hamana and the lives of its people, it attracts many visitors praying for the peace and prosperity of the entire region. It is a sacred shrine of special rank as the chief guardian of Totomi Province.
