Toriyasaki Jinja is a shrine located in Yoshi, Ishitoriya Town, Hanamaki. The place name "Ishitoriya" is said to derive from an old legend about birds being driven off cliffs with stones—a most intriguing history indeed. As the local tutelary deity, this shrine has long been cherished by the local people. Given the region's agricultural character, it has been revered especially as a deity of abundant harvests and agricultural prosperity.
