History
Gansuiji is a betsukaku honzan temple of the Koyasan Shingon sect in Hamana Ward, Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, with the mountain name Ryuguzan. The principal object of veneration is the Yakushi Nyorai, said to have cured Emperor Saga of illness. The main image, the Yakuyoke Koyasu Jizo Bosatsu, is designated a National Important Cultural Property and is believed to be the incarnation of the dragon god of the Tenryu River as well as a manifestation of motherhood. The temple has long been revered for prayers for safe childbirth and the blessing of children, and is known by the saying 'Gansuiji protects the home.'
