Gokoin is a Kegon sect Buddhist temple located in Kitamikadocho, Nara, affiliated with Todaiji Temple. Its mountain name is Shiyuzan. The temple enshrines a seated Amida Nyorai image as its principal object of worship — a figure representing the Buddha after five kalpas (eons) of contemplation, distinguished by its dramatically piled-up spiral hair. Viewing the temple is by appointment only, preserving its atmosphere of quiet reverence.
