History

Byakko

Motomachi Itsukushima Jinja, enshrined in Motomachi, Yokohama, is said to have been founded during the Jisho era (1177–1181), making it one of the older shrines in the area. It enshrines Ichikishimahime-no-Mikoto and has long been venerated by Motomachi merchants for prosperity in business, as well as for blessings related to matchmaking and safe voyages. Located near the former foreign settlement, the shrine weathered many changes over the centuries while continuing to receive the sincere devotion of local residents. Designated a village shrine (sonsha), it hosts its annual festival on June 2nd, when the entire neighborhood comes alive with celebration.
