History
Komagata Jinja is enshrined in Mizusawa, Oshu City, and takes Mount Komagadake as its sacred body. The name Komagata derives from the horse-like shape of the mountain, and it has long been known as a shrine with deep ties to horses. Deeply revered since the era of the Oshu Fujiwara clan, it was particularly revered by warriors as a guardian deity of horses. In an age when horses were vital to agriculture, it also gathered the faith of farmers. Today, as a guardian deity of transportation safety and travel, it remains beloved by many people, standing quietly in the land of Oshu.
