History
Yamaguchi Ken Gokoku Jinja is a shrine dedicated to approximately 37,000 spirits of the honored war dead from Yamaguchi Prefecture who sacrificed their precious lives for the nation from the Meiji Restoration through the Great East Asia War. Founded as a Shokonshai in Meiji 32 (1899), it took its present name in Showa 14 (1939). Located within the verdant grounds of Kayama Park, the shrine is also known as a celebrated cherry blossom viewing spot, drawing many visitors during spring. People from throughout the prefecture and beyond visit to offer gratitude to the honored spirits and prayers for peace.
