History

Kumano Hongu-sha is a Shinto shrine located in Natori City, Miyagi Prefecture, and one of the three Natori Kumano shrines. It enshrines the three Kumano deities: Ketsumimiko no Okami, Kumano Musubi no Okami, and Kumano Hayatama no Okami. As a branch of the Kumano Hongu Taisha in Wakayama, it served as a spiritual center for Kumano pilgrimage in the Tohoku region from the medieval period onward. The Kumanodo Junishinkashiodori, a traditional deer dance performed at the shrine precincts, has been designated an intangible folk cultural property of Natori City.
