Ruriji Temple, located in Takamorimachi, Shimoina-gun, Nagano Prefecture, is an ancient temple of the Tendai sect. It was founded in 1112 (Eien 3) by Monk Kanen of Chikurin-in on Mount Hiei. The principal object of worship is Yakushi Nyorai (Bhaisajyaguru), whose lapis lazuli radiance has long healed the suffering of devotees. The temple houses numerous cultural treasures, including the nationally designated Important Cultural Properties of Yakushi Nyorai with Nikko and Gakko Bosatsu, and the Sho-Kannon Standing Statue designated as a Nagano Prefectural Treasure. Deep in the Ina mountains, it remains a sacred site purifying the hearts and bodies of all who visit.
