Akiha Yamamoto Akiha Jinja, enshrined near the summit of Akiha Mountain, the sacred peak of Enshū, is known as the head shrine of more than three thousand Akiha shrines throughout Japan, a jinja of considerable rank! Positioned near the 866-meter-high summit of Akiha Mountain, it has gathered devoted faith nationwide since ancient times as the "Kami of Fire Prevention." Its founding dates to antiquity, with a history of flourishing as a site of ascetic Buddhist practice. During the Edo period, "Akiha pilgrimage" became tremendously popular among the common people. The view from the summit is magnificent, affording vistas of Enshu-nada and even Mount Fuji, drawing many pilgrims to climb the steep mountain paths. To this day, it continues to gather unwavering faith as a sacred place for those praying for fire prevention and household safety.
