History

Byakko

Bicchu Kokubunji was established by imperial decree of Emperor Shomu during the Nara period. Built with prayers for the protection of the nation, it has served as a spiritual pillar for the Bicchu region. The grounds, with their towering five-story pagoda, are beloved by many as a representative landscape of the Kibi region. In spring, rapeseed flowers bloom; in autumn, cosmos flowers flourish, creating a wonderful vista where the solemn beauty of the ancient temple harmonizes with nature.
