History

Byakko

Kosan-ji in Shimonoseki is a noted temple of the Rinzai sect with a long history continuing from the Kamakura period. Particularly during the late Edo period, it is known as the place where Takasugi Shinsaku raised an army, and it is remembered in history as a place connected to the patriots of the Meiji Restoration. The beautiful main hall is designated as a National Treasure, conveying the pinnacle of Kamakura period architectural technology as a precious cultural asset.
