Ichiki Shrine is located in Minatomachi, Ichiki-Kushikino, Kagoshima Prefecture. According to shrine tradition, it was founded in 767 (Jingo-Keiun 1), and enshrines Oyamatsumi no Mikoto as its principal deity — revered as the god of mountains, sake brewing, and seafaring. This deity has long been central to the livelihoods of local farmers and fishermen. During the medieval period, the shrine served as the tutelary shrine of the Ichiki clan. Under the patronage of the Satsuma domain's Shimazu lords in the Edo period, the shrine buildings underwent restoration. Designated as a village shrine (gosha) after the Meiji Restoration, it continues to this day to be a center of local faith, especially during its autumn festival.
